Mac menu bar app
Troubleshooting for the PlayThis.Live Mac companion app — menu bar queue, sign-in, notifications, and updates.
macOS says the app cannot be opened
This public beta is not Apple-notarized yet. Move PlayThis.Live to Applications, right-click the app, choose Open, then choose Open again. Only do this if you downloaded it from the official PlayThis.Live download page.
Sign in with browser
Use Sign in with Browser inside the panel. Finish login in Safari or Chrome; the app polls until your session is ready. If it times out, try again.
Turn on notification banners
The Mac app asks for notification permission after you sign in. Choose Allow so PlayThis.Live can show a banner whenever a new song request arrives.
- Open System Settings on your Mac.
- Go to Notifications.
- Find PlayThis.Live in the app list.
- Turn on Allow Notifications.
- Set the alert style to Banners or Alerts.
- Turn on Play sound for notification if you want an audible cue during your set.
Updating the app
Use Check for updates in the panel footer, or download the latest .dmg from the Mac app download page. Quit the old app, install the new build, and reopen.
Verify the download checksum
Run shasum -a 256 ~/Downloads/PlayThis.Live-1.0.0.dmg and compare it with the SHA256 value on the download page.
shasum -a 256 ~/Downloads/PlayThis.Live-1.0.0.dmgUninstall
Open the menu bar panel, choose Sign Out to remove the local Keychain token, choose Quit, then drag PlayThis.Live from Applications to the Trash.
Privacy
The Mac app stores a sign-in token in your Keychain, loads your events and requests from PlayThis.Live, and does not collect passwords. Sign out to remove the token from this Mac.
